NEW COLLECTION IN CHILDREN'S ROOM
Beginning Readers
After receiving several requests, we have begun separating our Beginning Readers from the rest of the Easy book collection.  These titles such as the Harper I Can Read & Early I Can Read books are designed for children just learning to read on their own.  We recently purchased 50 books in this group and are in the process of revising the rest of the Beginning Readers and moving them from the Easy to Beginning section.  We hope this will make it easier for you to find books for your young ones who are just entering the world of reading for themselves.

SNAKES, SNAKES AND MORE SNAKES
Gary The Snakeman Returns For Family Reading Night

Family Reading Night, Nov. 20th will mark the return of Gary "The Snakeman" to the library.  Gary is a walking encyclopedia of information about snakes, snake myths and snakes as pets.  Gary runs his own snake shop in Quincy Illinois and he loves to share information about these often misunderstood creatures.  He brings several live specimens (and always leaves with the same number he brings).

Gary will be here at 6:00pm on Thursday, Nov. 20th so mark your calendars for this fun and informative program!

DATABASE OF THE MONTH
Find Out About The Electronic Reference Resources Our Library Offers

This is the second installment of Database of the Month in which we will feature information about the various electronic resources currently offered at the library.

Gale Virtual Reference Library.  This resource offers a number of highly-acclaimed reference and information titles in an e-book format.  At the present time there are approximately 1,950 titles available to our library users.  Some of the resources available include the Encyclopedia of World Biography, Short Stories For Students, Writers Directory 2009 and the Gale Encyclopedia of Science.  Several broad categories such as Art, History, Biography, etc. take you to specific titles, or you can perform a general inquiry that searches all 1950 titles simultaneously.

This resource is available on all library computers.  Login is automatic so you do not need a user id or password.  As with all electronic resources, the books are never checked out, lost or misshelved and the materials are updated as new information is made available.

The Gale Virtual Reference Library puts hundreds of reference titles at your fingertips.  Stop by the library today and check it out!

BOOK DONATIONS
Policies For Donations

Our library always welcomes donations of new best sellers, popular DVD's and high-interest non-fiction.  However, due to our limited storage space we ask that you contact the library first before bringing large numbers of other types of books.  Generally, we cannot use old  textbooks, magazines, condensed books and VHS-format video.  We ask that you hold these types of items until we announce a book sale.

We also ask that you NOT leave items by the door after hours.  We often find that the things dropped off are not even suitable for the book sale and must be disposed of.

Thank you for your cooperation
